THANKSGIVING EVENT:
FAMILY FEUD

Form a family with four other members of your grade (five contestants total) and compete for points in the Reading Challenge. Your "family" will have to guess the most common answers to a series of book-related questions after we survey students from NYC schools.

Example: What did NYC students say is the worst book-to-movie adaptation ever?

You will receive individual/grade points for participating. Your team earns 500 points each if you win. And you earn 50 points if you attend to watch in the audience.

WHEN: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30

The Witching Hour

On October 14, two hundred students across all grades participated in an all night Halloween-themed Read-a-thon.

Over one hundred students were still reading when the sun rose at 7am. They earned 500 points towards our yearlong Reading Challenge.

You can read more about the event here, and learn more about our upcoming events at our Coming Soon page.

KICK-OFF EVENT: READ-IN

The week of September 18th is Banned Book Week (organized by The Freedom to Read Foundation).  There will be a variety of activities in the library as well as daily announcements denouncing censorship.

As a show of support for Intellectual Freedom  and a way to "kick off” the Reading Initiative, there will be a double 3rd band.  During band 3b, we are asking that the entire Townsend Harris School Community stop everything and read.  Students should be allowed to read the materials of their choice.
